I talked to Forbes about the boom in the vices of porn, drugs and gambling as ways Americans coped with Covid these past two years.
As KrackWins Nation knows, the gambling industry was hit hard at the beginning of the pandemic. Nevada, the mecca for the gaming industry, was shuttered due to stat-at-home orders and lost nearly $8 billion in gross gaming revenue from 2019 to 2020. Sports gambling took a.hit as well – March Madness was cancelled, seasons across all sports were delayed and games were cancelled. But once sports returned and the pandemic waned, people were eager to go out and spend their money.
During the pandemic, may states pushed through laws to get mobile sports betting off the ground. By the end of 2021, 31 states had legalized sports betting with 18 launching mobile sports gambling. The pandemic gambling boom is far from over, more states are legalizing sports betting and making it the center of major entertainment centers in its cities. As a professional sports bettor, I think the legalization of sports gambling is a good thing, but I feel uneasy about the long term effects of an addictive pastime going mainstream.
