Being a long term successful professional sports bettor requires a number of different qualities – patience, determination, and a strong stomach, just to name a few. The “grind” that I always talk about is just that – an up and down marathon that we run and know that if we stick to it, we will come out ahead at the end of the race. I always like to remind our new members that fact after a losing week and that long term results speak for themselves year after year. Even though we can remind ourselves that’s the case, a week like this past one can frustrate even the most seasoned pro.
The PGA & Justin Thomas
Simply put, the breaks just didn’t go our way. In golf, Justin Thomas came out of nowhere on Sunday to win the year’s second major, the PGA. Our PGA matchups went 2-2 and Tony Finau finished 2 strokes outside the Top 20, costing us our one future.
New York and LA feel like they each have two teams that can win the World Series this year. Our MLB plays went 3-3 (-.9 units.) You can expect more volume in MLB after the NBA Playoffs.
NBA Playoffs News
Speaking of, the NBA Playoffs had the first losing week [2-6 (-4.4 units)] with a string of bad beats on Player Props. You won’t see a worse beat than the Jimmy Butler over 38.5 points/rebounds/assists bet in Game 2 of the Heat v. Celtics series. He sat at 38 at the end of the 3rd quarter and then sat the entire 4th, as the Heat were down 30. In fact, this slew of blowouts has really messed with all NBA sports bettors. 25 and 30 point wins destroy any real legitimacy to a total bet as the game becomes a circus and the benches are emptied. To top off the unusual run on the hardwood, the WNBA has its first losing week, finishing 2-3 (-2.1 units). Overall we ended the week at 9-15, -7.9 units.
