Before sports became my living , it was my passion, well at least one sport and one team in particular – baseball and the New York Yankees. My father was a huge Yankees fan and some of my most precious memories from my youth are watching Yanks games together. Even after I moved out I remember chatting with him on the phone after a tough loss about how the manager needed to be fired immediately or they need to rework the lineup. I always miss him, but I know it will hit a little harder this week with his beloved Pinstripers back in the Fall Classic to face their hated rival, the Dodgers. I cannot wait.
Hard to believe it has been 43 years since these teams last met in the World Series. I think about how much this matchup means to those lucky enough to be alive to remember those matchups in the 50’s – Like one of my friends – a guy who goes by the name of Slick – he grew up a few blocks from Ebbets Field in Brooklyn and actually went to the ’56 Series between these same two teams. He cannot wait. Baseball is unlike any other sport in that way it can span generations. Should be a hell of a series. MLB went 1-1, (-.2 units) last week in the Championship Series.

Meanwhile, while the WNBA Season came to a close (1-1, -.3 units) the NBA Season tipped off this week. The Heat opened by naming their court for Pat Riley and it got me thinking what does Riley, the coach of those slugging Heat and Knicks teams from the 1990’s, really think of the game today.
