It’s another new episode of Wise Kracks sports betting podcast. Cohost Jon Orlando and I are excited to welcome professional poker player Maria Ho to the studio, fresh from the World Series of Poker Main Event where she was table-side as a 31-year old poker pro won $8 million and the most coveted prize in poker.
Watch the full episode for tales of poker and the latest from the sports world, including a million-dollar winning bet that I called almost six months ago.
Poker Pro Maria Ho Shares Tips And Stories
Maria has won over $4 million playing poker tournaments including 63 WSOP cashes, five final tables, 13 World Poker Tour cashes, and four WPT final tables, including a title. She breaks down poker strategy as a commentator for the World Series of Poker Main Event which wrapped up in Las Vegas last week.
Maria made it into the Wise Kracks studio to share insider stories from the WSOP and share expert-level poker knowledge with Jon and me. In addition to sharing tips on bankroll management and other poker topics, Maria also shares what it’s really like to hit a huge poker score. The truth is fascinating and not at all what we expected.
Wild MLB Futures And NJ Breaks $1B In Monthly Bets
Caesars Sportsbook lost nearly $1 million on a single futures bet after Shohei Ohtani became AL MLB MVP. In March, a Nevada bettor placed a $30,000 wager on Ohtani to win the American League MVP Award. This was a pick I gave to my premium KrackWins members in March at the exact same odds.
Expectations have always been huge for legal sports betting in New Jersey but we’re only now starting to see what that really means. According to recent reports, NJ became the first state to break the $1 billion betting mark in a single month. In September 2021, nine casinos and three racetracks in the state took in $1.01 billion in total bets. After paying out all the winning tickets, the house was able to keep over $82 million in profit.
Our Hot Takes: Trap Lines And Best KO
In today’s Hot Takes segment, I explain what a “trap line” is in sports betting and whether it’s actually something to watch out for. While the concept is a bit overblown, a trap line is a bet that looks too good to be true, usually on a big favorite. When you see these kinds of bets, the counterintuitive side of the line is often the right one and the one that sharp bettors are taking.
For Jon’s hot take, I ask about the best knockout Jon ever witnessed live. Jon’s pick? McGregor knocking out Jose Aldo in a title UFC fight in what was the quickest KO the league had ever seen.
