Jon Opens For His Dad!
For those of you who don’t know – Jon Orlando has the chops of a comedian. We don’t just mean he’s funny, we mean he’s actually been a professional comedian! He once opened for his dad.
“I’m going to open for you,” said Jon. “You sure? Atlantic City is a tough crowd for New Years.”
Jon was just coming off opening for Tom Jones and was feeling great. Despite Tony trying to persuade Jon, he still went through with it!
“I got on stage, everybody had those noisemakers. I’m not kidding you. Six minutes in, I had the white flag bailing out. I literally went to my closing joke six minutes in.”
So what followed? None other than Tony to save the day for his son! How did he get saved? A simple knock-knock joke.
Indiana Jones and Tony Orlando’s Mustache
Indiana Jones could have looked a lot different. In fact, Indiana Jones could have looked a lot like Tony Orlando… Except without the mustache.
Tony was almost Indiana Jones. “The casting director calls me and says ‘Tony, I want you to read for this new movie called Indiana Jones. I believe you can get this part.’”
Tony ends up doing the reading and screen test and eventually received a call from none other than Steven Spielberg.
He (Spielberg) says, “Tony, I just want you to know something. I think your performance was unbelievable.”
That sounds like pretty high praise and it certainly sounds like Tony had the part of Indiana Jones in the bag, right!?
Well, almost.
Tony continued to recall what Spielberg said, “You should have this part. But let me tell you why I’m not going there.”
Here’s a hint… Outside of his stellar singing chops, what is Tony Orlando also most famously known for? It’s directly under his nose and above his upper lip!
This was one of the greatest stories we’ve heard on Wise Kracks so you’ll definitely have to tune in to catch how it ends!
