This past week’s Monday Night Football matchups between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals was one of the most anticipated games of the year. Two Super Bowl contenders battling in Prime Time for a possible #1 seed in the AFC. Of course we all know by now that none of that mattered when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field in the first quarter. CPR was administered and the crowd both in the stadium and at home watching could only pray that Hamlin would make it. At that point, you couldn’t help but think about how inconsequential things like betting lines and our fantasy teams are when compared to life and death.
No matter how much fans are invested in their teams, sport are just a game played by regular (very athletic) human beings. The true heroes are folks like the EMTs and medical personnel at the game that responded quickly on the field and offer Damar Hamlin a chance to live. It’s because of them he has a chance to live. As we kick off 2023, let’s review the last two weeks of the our betting year. The NFL was up and down, going 8-10 (-3.1 units) over the last two weeks. We promised another successful NCAA Bowl season and delivered yet again, going 5-2 (+7.2 units) over the final two weeks (and overall 9-2 for bowl season.) College Basketball suffered some bad beats on totals, going 10-13-1 (-8.6 units.) On the flip side, our NBA Props continued to its ridiculous run, as we went 7-2 (+4.7 units) overall in the NBA. Overall for the two week holiday stretch, KrackWins went 30-27-3 to essentially break even (+.2u).
One thing that I’ve noticed since the explosion of sports betting is that many folks in the industry see this as some sort of competition between the sharps. I wish more people would realize that we are all in this together trying to grind out profits, and the only competition we have is the book itself.
