Sports Betting Podcast: Boxing Legend Don Elbaum

Jun 17, 2021 | Krackwins On Demand, Sports Betting Tips, Sports Picks Podcast, Wise Kracks Podcast

We’re back with another episode of Wise Kracks, my weekly sports betting podcast with co-host Jon Orlando. I’m still on my travels this week, joining you from the shores of the Great Lakes in Erie, Pennsylvania. I fill Jon in on the latest movements from my Americana road trip. Jon and I even have time for some movie recommendations before we get into all the latest sports news.

Lightning Won’t Strike Twice for Mickelson

It’s US Open Week as the PGA Tour’s national championship gets under way at Torrey Pines. Jon is excited at the prospect of a historic grand slam for PGA champ Phil Mickelson – but I’m having none of it. After the once in a lifetime win last time round, I think that Phil’s 40/1 odds should be avoided like the plague. I am similarly skeptical of the short odds on the top 10 or so favorites, but there might be some value to be found outside of them.

Line Movement in the NBA Playoffs

Jon continues his now weekly tradition of reminding everyone of his prediction from a couple of weeks ago that the Phoenix Suns were going to go all the way if they beat the Lakers. And after their sweep of the Nuggets it’s looking pretty good. I talk about the challenges with betting on the NBA, and why an injury to just one player can move the line too much in my eyes.

Tantalizing NFL Futures

Is betting on a team to have the best record a good way to go for the new NFL season? There is certainly some decent value out there with the newly released lines, which you can check out on WSN.com. Jon is obviously feeling on a roll after his NBA prediction, so he’s putting his neck on the line again, with another big futures call. This time he’s picked the NFC Champion, and the answer might surprise you… Jon and I also discuss Mahomes and the Chiefs, and whether the Raiders have any shot in the AFC at 33/1.

Special Guest: Boxing Legend Don Elbaum

It’s not every day we get a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame on Wise Kracks. Don Elbaum has seen and done it all in the world of boxing: from starting matchmaking at just 16 years old to his own 40 wins as an amature and 10 pro bouts. Over the course of his career Don has promoted more than 10,000 fights. He’s worked with everyone from Muhammad Ali to Don King, and he’s here to share some of his stories.

Don and I go way back. We talk dream matchups, including how the likes of Tyson, Ali, Lewis and Rocky Marciano would have fared against each other. Don reveals the real reason that boxing fights are 12 rounds – and why he believes that really they should go for 15. There’s also his relationships with Frank Sinatra, Sugar Ray Robinson and more. You don’t want to miss this trip down boxing’s memory lane.
